once upon a time, I was in a band. we started as a synth/drum duo, I was the drummer. we soon expanded to a four-piece, adding a guitarist/synthesist, and a vocalist. we wrote and demoed 9 songs and, on the precipice of doing a proper recording, we were hit with a double-whammy: our two newest members were being transferred to another continent by their employer, in one case; and quitting music altogether in another. at that point, we decided to move on, rather than try to replace two very unique individuals.

naturally disappointed by this, I eventually decided to "make lemonade" by writing my own material around some of the beats I had played in the above band. in some cases, I took inspiration from the previous iteration of the songs, deliberately making them more dissonant/discordant/tense - and mostly shorter in length - than they had previously been.

stylistically, I took inspiration from: the NYC punk/no wave/art(o) rock scene of the late 70s/early 80s; similarly-styled artists of the same time period from the west coast of the U.S.; U.K.-based post-punk and "batcave" goth artists of the same time period; as well as the so-called psycho-beat and neue deutsche welle "scenes" out of Germany in the same time frame. some of my favourites are rather blatantly referenced in the song titles.

despite the disappointment of losing the above-mentioned band, I'm quite happy with how it all turned out, in the end. special thanks to everyone who helped plant the seed; and to my lovely and talented spawn, Rosalyn Roche - yet again! - for the incredible cover art.
